On June 13 PIB members have organized the Dutch Biobased Energy Day in Vinnytsia, sharing their experience and presenting technologies for biobased energy production. The event has been held in cooperation with the Ukraine State Agency on Energy Efficiency, Vinnytsia Municipality, Vinnytsia Oblast Council, Vinnytsia Oblast Administration and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kyiv.

Vinnytsia agriculture sector is one of the strongest in the country: the region plays the leading position in grains output, while local oilseed, meat and dairy companies account for a significant share of Ukrainian export. Strong biomass supply stimulates bioenergy sector development, waste-to energy in particular. Thus, Vinnytsia has already 2 biogas CHP of a total capacity of 1.63 MW and 30 boiler houses running on biomass.

Guests of Biobased Energy Day got an opportunity to learn about Dutch technologies and see how to get more value out of biomass that Vinnytsia region has available. Solutions offered by PIB members included:

  • heat and electricity generation by KARA biomass boilers and CHP,
  • bioethanol production via direct processing with betaprocess designed by DSD and
  • production of liquid biofuel / pyrolysis oil via fast pyrolysis technology developed by BTG-BTL.

PIB members are in Ukraine for 1-week Road Trip. Earlier this week the delegation visited Odesa. After Vinnytsia, the delegation is heading to Ternopil.
